FP McCann Supplies and Installs Five Storey Precast Concrete Lift Shaft on an Exclusive Bournemouth Development

FP McCann has recently completed the supply and install of a five storey precast concrete single lift shaft on a luxury apartment build in Bournemouth, Dorset. “The Montague” located in the West Cliff area, is on the site of the former hotel of the same name and on completion will consist of 25 self-contained, high specification apartments. Construction is being headed up by local developer PDL Bournemouth Ltd Su-Fix Precast Ltd..

The single lift shaft has been installed by FP McCann’s sub-contract partner Koba Erection Services Ltd over a 2 day period on a particularly tight site, demonstrating the flexibility and practicality of utilising off-site manufactured products in such builds. FP McCann’s engineers were involved in the early stages of the design and were able to highlight to the client and developer the fast track construction capabilities using such a modular precast concrete system.

The single lift pit was formed in situ along with the foundations on site by the groundworks team. The precast concrete lift shaft comprises 5 no. single door sections, 5 no. single travel sections and one capping slab. The completed shaft weighs 45.14 tonnes with external dimensions 17083mm high x 1950mm wide x 2100mm deep. Each lift door opening measures 1200mm x 2250mm. Components and features in the box section lift shaft include door openings, smooth internal finish and cast in fixing channels. The lift shaft sections were craned into position and secured by the Koba Erection Services fixing team.
