FP McCann ‘L’ Walls Form Boundary Earth Retention Solution on South Derbyshire Business Park

FP McCann’s steel reinforced precast concrete ‘L’ Wall earth retention system is being installed on a brand new speculative industrial development site at Dove Valley Park, in Foston, Derbyshire. Clowes Developments, one of the UK’s largest privately owned property investment organisations is developing Plot 4 on the extensive 200 acres Dove Valley site, which includes a 190,000 sq ft warehouse unit.
With changes in elevation surrounding the unit footprint, the large scheme involves substantial boundary earthwork retention. Following a review of their insitu boundary wall options, design engineers working on behalf of Clowes Developments, opted for an off-site manufactured precast concrete ‘L’ Wall system.
West Midlands based groundworks and civil engineering specialist Hannon Brothers is undertaking the main infrastructure works which includes the installation of the earth retaining ‘L’ Walls. Each individual run of walling acts as a soil retention barrier and once fixed into position on a concrete foundation slab, earth is backed up against the ‘L Walls’ as part of the raised ground stabilising work surrounding the development’s footprint.
FP McCann has supplied its 1.0m wide ‘L’ Wall units ranging in height from 1.0m to 2.5m in 0.5 metre increments, covering a total site perimeter length of 89 metres. The units have been manufactured and delivered from the Company’s Grantham precast concrete factory in Lincolnshire.
The ‘L’ Wall method of constructing an earth retaining barrier is a simple, fast process and eliminates the need for shuttering, steel foundation formwork and the pouring of wet concrete. An additional benefit of the ‘L’ Wall system is that no propping is required during construction.

The precast concrete ‘L’ Wall units are available in heights from 1.0 metre to 3.75 metres from FP McCann’s Lydney and Grantham depots and from 4.0 metres to 6.0 metres from Byley.
