FP McCann Completes Works at Ballymena Showgrounds

The project, which was carried out for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, involved the construction of a new bitmac surfaced car parking area to accommodate 284 cars, which is accessed via a new feature entrance off the recently completed St Patrick’s Link Road in Ballymena.

The feature entrance was constructed with a reinforced curved concrete core wall, outer skins of concrete blockwork and pillars, finished off with FP McCann’s Causeway basalt stone cladding. Sandstone panel units for signage backing and reconstituted stone copings and pier caps were also added. Stainless steel back lit LED illuminated signage provides a contrasting feature. Approximately 100m² of the basalt stone cladding was installed, which was sourced locally from our Bradley’s Quarry in Kilrea. The surrounding area was finished off with soft landscaping and the main entrance gate is fully automated.

A tree lined, grass verged entrance road was constructed to provide access to the main showgrounds complex and the new car park area, with this whole area now serviced with new street lighting. An additional CCTV system was installed to service this new car park and entrance, as well as an automated vehicle barrier to control access to other areas within the Showgrounds. Also under this contract, new ball stop fencing and catch nets were installed to an existing grass pitch, and an existing area was re-gravelled to accommodate an overflow car park.
