Omagh Road Drumquin Culvert Replacement
Project: Omagh Road Drumquin Culvert Replacement
Client: Department for Infrastructure
FP McCann have recently successfully completed the replacement of a twin masonry arch culvert with a bespoke box culvert as part of the Structures Maintenance STW3 contract on the Omagh Rd outside Drumquin, with all materials being supplied by FP McCann.

At approximately 15m long, FP McCann and our subcontractor, Beggan Concrete, were presented with a very challenging task of installing the skewed box culverts and wingwalls at approximately 2m below the bed of the often unpredictable Magherenny Burn, coupled with a very challenging site involving installing the box culverts beneath the live fibre communication cables running through the site.
Works involved closing the busy Drumquin/Omagh Road for a period of 3 weeks with a scheduled opening of 29th August in time for uninterrupted school buses in September. Initial works involved demolition of the existing twin arch masonry culvert followed with the main excavation for the new culvert and foundation to the new culvert and wingwalls.
A total of 18 precast units weighing in at around 180T were installed in 1 day allowing the remaining works to proceed at pace. All box culverts were bespoke to suit the skew of the existing watercourse and aligning the road with the edge of the parapets. All precast units were manufactured at our Macrete depot
All concrete for the works was supplied form our local Omagh Depot and all aggregates, rock armour, kerbing and surfacing materials supplied from our Lisnaskea depot.
FP McCann’s Ennis Stone was used to complement the surrounding area with its use in the masonry parapets. FP McCann’s primary rock armour was also used within the watercourse as scour protection to the embankments.
