PRECAST CONCRETE SOLUTIONS
Precast concrete solutions play a vital role in modern construction. They allow architects, main contractors, and sub-contractors to build faster, safer, and more efficiently while achieving consistent quality across every element.
By manufacturing components in a controlled environment and delivering them ready to install, precast concrete helps reduce on-site labour, improve accuracy, and support sustainable building practices.
FP McCann is one of the UK’s leading providers of precast concrete solutions. With over 45 years of experience and 14 manufacturing facilities across the UK and Ireland, we supply high-quality, fully engineered precast systems for civil, commercial, residential, and infrastructure projects.

WHAT ARE PRECAST CONCRETE SOLUTIONS?
Precast concrete refers to structural and non-structural components that are manufactured off-site under strict quality control, then transported to site for rapid installation.
These can include wall panels, flooring systems, drainage structures, retaining walls, or architectural elements.
A precast concrete solution combines design, manufacture, delivery, and installation into one complete service.
This approach ensures each element is designed for the project’s specific requirements, improving buildability and performance. It also provides greater certainty for specifiers and contractors by reducing variables linked to weather, site access, and curing time.

THE BENEFITS OF USING PRECAST CONCRETE SOLUTIONS
Faster construction
Precast concrete components are ready to install upon delivery, which significantly reduces on-site works. This accelerates build programmes and allows follow-on trades to begin sooner.
Higher quality and precision
Factory-controlled production ensures dimensional accuracy and consistent strength. Each unit is cast in reusable moulds, guaranteeing compliance with BS and EN standards.
Improved sustainability
By producing units efficiently and minimising waste, precast systems help reduce embodied carbon. FP McCann’s manufacturing processes use energy-efficient technologies and locally sourced aggregates to support the UK’s Net Zero goals.
Safer installation
Because precast components are manufactured off-site, fewer wet trades and less working at height are required, improving site safety.
Design versatility
Precast concrete can be formed into almost any shape or finish, providing flexibility for both functional and architectural designs.

PRECAST CONCRETE CASE STUDY
FP McCann Thin Flat Roof Tiles Installed on North Ayrshire Care Home
FP McCann supplied our thin leading edge interlocking concrete roof tiles branded “Thin Flat” to a brand-new care facility in Largs, North Ayrshire.
A total of 16,000 tiles together with 360 ridge tiles were specified and were chosen not only for their durability and ease of installation but also for their aesthetic appeal, which had a distinctive slate-like appearance and aligned with the care home’s modern architectural design.
The tiles were easy to fix for the contractor and minimum breakage was recorded.

JOINTS, CONNECTIONS, AND COMPATIBILITY
The strength and stability of a precast structure depend on its joints and connections. FP McCann provides detailed guidance on the correct jointing systems for each application.
Our engineers design precast concrete joints and connections to ensure proper load transfer, watertightness, and long-term durability.
Whether dry, grouted, or mechanical, all joint details are designed for efficient assembly and safe installation.
HOW PRECAST CONCRETE IMPROVES PROJECT EFFICIENCY
Integrating precast systems early in a project helps architects and contractors manage time, cost, and quality more effectively. Each component is designed in parallel with the structural layout, enabling smoother coordination between design teams and on-site operations.
Precast elements remove the need for traditional formwork and in-situ curing, reducing construction time and dependency on weather conditions.
For main contractors, this means greater programme certainty and lower labour requirements. For architects, it ensures that every component meets the design intent and regulatory standards.
SUSTAINABILITY AND LOW-CARBON MANUFACTURING
FP McCann is committed to sustainable manufacturing across all operations. Our latest facility in Leicestershire operates on 100% solar energy, reducing embodied carbon during production.
We continuously refine our mix designs to reduce cement content and incorporate supplementary materials such as GGBS, achieving lower-carbon concrete without compromising performance.
All precast units are manufactured under controlled conditions to reduce waste and energy use. By sourcing raw materials locally and delivering from regional sites, we also minimise transport emissions. These practices align with the UK Government’s Net Zero Strategy and support BREEAM and LEED-certified projects.
