The Big Bridge workshop at Carryduff Primary School
Title: The Big Bridge, Carryduff Primary School, Wednesday 22nd November 2023

Description: FP McCann are undertaking the Loughmoss 3G Pitch project which will deliver a new floodlit 3rd generation pitch to GAA standard with 2 cross number soccer pitches, on behalf of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council. The workshop was with the P5 class in the local Carryduff Primary School, and as part of KS2 and STEM we talked about bridges, with plenty of questions. The children then got to the interactive bit, The Big Bridge. A cable-stayed bridge, building the deck and attaching the cables, under the supervision of FP McCann staff leaders with some problem solving along the way. Once construction was completed, each pupil got to check it twice by walking across, including Mr A Magee their teacher. By the end of the workshop we had some budding engineers, who will hopefully be joining the construction industry in the future.
