How to Use FP McCann Roof Tile Bedding Mortar

Preparation:

  • When using this product, good site practice should always apply. FP McCann cannot be held responsible where workmanship has failed to meet relevant European and British Standards
  • Prior to use all surfaces must be sound clean and free from any loose material or any other contamination including oils, grease and curing membranes.
  • Fresh mortar should be protected from frost and inclement weather. Cement based products will take longer to harden and set at lower temperatures and should not be used below 5ºC
  • When site temperatures are below 10ºC allow extra time for hardening
  • Slight batch to batch colour variations may occur. Always work with the same batch of material where possible or premix batches to reduce visible variations
  • Efflorescence and Limebloom are natural phenomena affecting all cement-based materials. Efflorescence can be minimised by avoiding working in cold and damp conditions and protecting mortar from unfavourable weather conditions until sufficiently cured to withstand them.

Application:

  • FP McCann Roof Tile Bedding Mortar should be mixed using the correct amount of water by using a mechanical mixing method such as using a suitable slow speed high torque drill and mixing paddle or suitable free-fall mixer.
  • Mix to a consistency suitable for the intended application. Typically, a 20kg bag should be mixed with 2.5 – 3.5 litres of water.
  • Mix product for a minimum of 3 minutes until a homogeneous consistency is achieved. Mixing too wet or too dry will impair performance and may affect final appearance.
  • Mixed material should be used within 60min of mixing.
  • Mortar must be of a consistent stiffness prior to pointing to reduce any colour variations.
  • Adding additional water or trying to revive a mix that has begun to go off will greatly reduce performance and may result in colour variation.
