Key Applications of High Performance Concrete
Public Realm and Urban Infrastructure
FP McCann Paving Grout is engineered for high performance use in busy urban spaces where durability and appearance are equally important. Its rapid setting formulation allows efficient project progression, minimising disruption in public areas.
Commercial and Municipal Developments
Designed to withstand demanding operational environments, the grout is suitable for a wide range of commercial hard landscaping applications. The robust compressive strength (>40MPa at 28 days) ensures long term performance in heavy use settings.
Vehicular and Trafficked Areas
Thanks to its high density and strong flexural performance, FP McCann Paving Grout performs excellently in areas requiring rigidity and load resistance. Foot traffic can resume within approx. 2 hours, and vehicle use within 6 hours (site dependent), enabling rapid reopening of essential routes.
Residential and Outdoor Living Spaces
For domestic contractors and landscaping professionals, the grout provides a premium, easy to clean finish. Compatible with all modern residential paving materials including porcelain, natural stone and concrete.
Heritage and Conservation Projects
Its fine aggregate size and smooth finish make FP McCann Paving Grout suitable for sensitive paving restoration where joint uniformity is essential. The controlled slurry consistency allows precision without disturbing existing units.
Industrial and Utility Environments
For sites requiring reliability under constant operational stress. Its high compressive strength and low shrinkage help maintain long lasting joint integrity.
Key Benefits of FP McCann Paving Grout
FP McCann Paving Grout delivers a range of performance advantages designed to make installation faster, easier and more reliable.
Rapid Setting for Faster Project Turnaround
Paving Grout is formulated for accelerated installation, allowing foot traffic in as little as 2 hours and vehicle loading within around 6 hours (temperature dependent). This shortens downtime dramatically, making it ideal for public areas, busy commercial sites and fast-paced residential projects where quick reopening is essential.
High-Flow Slurry for Complete Joint Penetration
The highly fluid consistency ensures the grout flows deeply and evenly into joints from 5–50mm wide and 20–200mm deep, reducing the risk of voids, weak spots or incomplete filling. This makes application easier and more reliable, especially on large-format paving or installations with complex joint profiles.
Exceptional Long-Term Strength
With compressive strengths of >30MPa at 7 days and >40MPa at 28 days, the product offers structural stability comparable to traditional site-mixed mortars—without the inconsistency. Its flexural strength (>6MPa at 28 days) helps the system better withstand surface loads and thermal movement, improving joint longevity.
Designed to Meet BS 7533 Requirements
FP McCann Paving Grout is engineered for rigid/bound construction in accordance with BS 7533, the industry standard for paving durability and performance.
This gives contractors and specifiers confidence that the product will perform reliably in demanding applications, from public realm enhancements to heavy-use vehicular zones.
Versatile Compatibility with Modern and Traditional Paving
Whether installing porcelain, natural stone, concrete or clay paving units, the grout bonds effectively and delivers a smooth, uniform finish. Its 2mm max aggregate size creates refined, consistent joint lines suitable for both contemporary and heritage paving schemes.
Easy to Mix and Apply
With a straight forward mix ratio of 3.7-4.3l of water per 20kg bag, the product produces a smooth workable slurry in minutes. The predictable consistency makes it easy for installers to; fill wide or deep joints efficiently, move across large areas quickly, maintain consistent colour and finish and reduce waste.
Weatherproof, Recyclable Packaging
Each bag is durable, clean to handle and fully recyclable, supporting sustainable site management. The packaging also protects the material from moisture, helping to preserve quality during transport and storage.
Reliable Performance in a Wide Temperature Range
The grout performs effectively across typical site conditions, with clear guidance to ensure best results. It continues to work well in colder weather (above 5°C) and can be used in warmer conditions with simple precautions like shading or cooling the water
Consistent, Professional Finish Every Time
The product’s controlled formulation minimises common issues such as shrinkage, uneven colour, surface staining, weak patches and premature joint failure. Installers can achieve a clean, tight , and durable finish across both small domestic areas and large commercial projects.
Reduced Risk of Joint Failure
Because the slurry fills the entire joint depth and binds tightly to the paving edges, it helps resist: water ingress, frost damage, joint erosion and movement under load. This leads to lower maintenance requirements and fewer call backs for contractors.
How to Use FP McCann Paving Grout
Application Guidance
- When using this product, good site practice should always apply. FP McCann cannot be held responsible where workmanship has failed to meet the relevant European and British Standards
- Cement based products will take longer to harden and set at lower temperatures, and should not be used below 5°C . Do not use in ground where frost is present or excepted overnight
- When site temperatures are 10°C extra time should be allowed for cleaning
- When working in hotter temperatures consider jointing early in the day, keep bags out of direct sunlight, mix with cool water and always ensure ensure to pre-soak paving with cool water. Mix in smaller quantities working manageable areas only.
- Do not use if ambient or paving temperature is 25°C and rising
- Adding extra water to create a more liquid consistency or extend setting times or washing the surface of paving before the grout has sufficiently firmed up will affect the final colour, the hardened properties and may cause the product to settle low in joint
- All surfaces must be clean and free from all contamination
- All paving surfaces should be saturated with clean water and kept wet until the jointing process has been completed. Immediately prior to application ensure the joints are free from debris and standing water.
- Apply the mortar immediately after mixing to the surface of the paving. Carefully spread the grout and fill into the joints using a suitable rubber squeegee. The grout should be kept moving constantly over the surface to repeatedly top up joints.
- Once the joints are filled, use the rubber squeegee to remove as much mortar as possible from face of the paving units.
- The face of the paving units must be kept constantly moist using a light/soft spray of water until the grout in the joints has sufficiently hardened to allow cleaning.
- Cleaning is carried out by spraying with water and using a squeegee or brush taking care not to disturb the joints. Keep wetting and cleaning until all residue is removed from the surface. For large areas, the use of a grout sponge machine is recommended.
- Due to the rapid setting characteristics, extra care should be taken not to allow the grout to dry out or harden on the surface of the paving particularly in warmer temperatures.
- Freshly grouted areas should be protected from foot traffic for a minimum of 2 hours and vehicular traffic for a minimum of 6 hours, dependent on temperature and site conditions.
Mixing and Water Guidance
- FP McCann Paving Grout should be mixed using the correct amount of water by using a mechanical mixing method such as using a suitable slow speed high torque drill and mixing paddle.
- Mix to a consistency suitable for the intended application. Typically, a 20kg bag should be mixed with 3.7-4.3 L of water.
- Mix product for a minimum of 3 minutes until a homogeneous consistency is achieved.
- Ensure mixed mortar is used within 20 minutes of mixing.
- Adding additional water or trying to revive a mix that has begun to go off will greatly reduce performance
Storage Guidance
- Please ensure unopened bags are stored in cool dry conditions, preferably on a pallet or shelf to keep elevated from the ground and protected from wind and rain
- If the product is stored correctly (as detailed above), the Chromium (VI) in this product will be within required levels for up to 12 months
- Use of this product after the declared storage period can be hazardous. Prolonged storage beyond 12 months may increase the level of Chromium (VI) and may increase the risk of allergic reaction following direct contact with skin.
