POWERING RENEWABLE ENERGY – FP MCCANN’S READY-MIX CONCRETE AT BALLYUTOAG WINDFARM

Site: Ballyutoag Road, Co. Antrim

Project: Ballyutoag Windfarm

Main Contractor: GF Wilson

Products Supplied: Ready Mix Concrete

Date of Completion: June 2025

FP McCann recently supplied ready-mix concrete to G.F. Wilson for the construction of six robust wind turbine bases at the Ballyutoag Windfarm. This project is a significant step forward in harnessing renewable energy in the region, requiring precision and high-performance materials.

Each wind turbine foundation required an impressive 400 m³ of high-strength ready-mix concrete, engineered to meet the rigorous demands of wind energy generation and ensure long-term structural integrity. Maintaining a consistent and reliable supply of specialised concrete was essential to keep the construction on schedule, especially considering the continuous pouring requirements.

To meet these exacting standards, all concrete for the Ballyutoag Windfarm was produced at FP McCann’s depot in Mallusk. Our expert team carefully mixed the ready-mix concrete off-site, strictly adhering to the specific requirements for each turbine base. This controlled manufacturing process guarantees exceptional quality and consistency, delivering the precise quantity needed.

Once mixed, the concrete was delivered to the construction site in a ready-to-use state, minimising waste and optimising project timelines. For projects with enhanced performance needs, we can also incorporate admixtures and fibres during the mixing process. These additions are vital for preventing cracking, particularly when the concrete is poured in high temperatures and dries more rapidly, thereby ensuring the long-term durability of the structures.

Trevor Wilson, Director from G.F Wilson said: “This was a demanding project with continuous concrete pours needed to complete the wind turbine bases. We used FP McCann’s ready-mix concrete throughout and were more than happy with both the quality of the product and the level of service provided. The supply was consistent, reliable, and kept the job moving exactly as planned. The team at FP McCann were great to work with, and we wouldn’t hesitate to use them again on future projects.”

FP McCann has completed six turbine bases and is prepared to support the Ballyutoag Windfarm with additional concrete pours as the project progresses. This effort builds on our solid track record in the renewable energy sector. Our expertise and dedication demonstrate FP McCann’s unwavering commitment to quality, efficiency, and sustainability in the construction industry.
