FP McCann’s Imprinted Coloured Concrete Utilised in New McDonald’s Forecourt
Status: Completed
Location: McDonald’s, Larne
Division: Ready Mix Concrete, Drainage
Main Contractor: MP Coleman
Sub Contractor: Terra Imprints
Market Sector: Retail

FP McCann supplied precast drainage products as well as a number of ready mix concrete mixes to MP Coleman for the construction of a forecourt for a new McDonald’s in Larne, County Antrim.
A specialist coloured mix of concrete was supplied with added charcoal dye for the Drive Thru area. This was laid and printed by sub-contractor, Terra Imprints, to leave a dark cobble stone paving effect. Over 100m³ of this mix was supplied (13 mixer loads) for this element of the project alone.
The cobbled effect is achieved by using an imprinting template on top of the ready mix concrete when it is semi-cured.
A range of finishes can be achieved using this technique, such as brick or paving slab effects for domestic drives and patio areas. The result is a durable surfacing option with the aesthetic benefits of individually laid cobble stones but with a less labour-intensive installation process and no ongoing maintenance requirements, such as removing moss between joints.
Alex Darragh, Contracts Manager at MP Coleman, said: “FP McCann’s ready mix concrete was ideal for this job. The mix was specifically designed to provide a durable surface for a high volume of traffic using the Drive Thru and surrounding areas.
The addition of the charcoal dye to the concrete gives that authentic granite or basalt stone colour typically associated with cobble stones, and the finishing detail work by Terra Imprints gives a fantastic result”
FP McCann has now supplied this concrete mix to a number of new McDonald’s restaurants throughout Northern Ireland using of this imprinted surfacing option for the forecourt and Drive Thru areas. This new restaurant in Larne is due to open later in 2022.
