FP McCann’s Causeway Stone used at Ballymena Showgrounds

FP McCann’s Causeway basalt building stone was used on the new feature entrance at Ballymena Showgrounds, during a project completed by FP McCann’s construction division for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.
The building stone, which was extracted from our Bradley’s Quarry in Kilrea, was cut and bagged by Stone Solutions, Magherafelt. Stone Solutions extract large stones from the quarry face, these stones are then expertly cut down to specification using a specialised guillotine. Large cuts are used for buildings and walling, with smaller cuts used for cladding and corner stones.
For this project, approximately 100m² of cladding was installed. The entrance was finished with sandstone panel units and stainless steel back lit LED signage. The surrounding area was finished with soft landscaping.

It is great to see the cladding used at Ballymena Showgrounds, it adds real character to the complex and the addition of the signage and lighting adds contrast to the stone itself.”
As well as the feature entrance, FP McCann also completed the construction of a new car parking area for 284 cars. CCTV was installed as well as an automated vehicle barrier to control access to other areas within the complex. New ball stop fencing and catch nets were installed to an existing grass pitch, and an existing area was re-gravelled to create an overflow car park.

The entrance looks fantastic, and is accessed off the St. Patrick’s Link Road, which is another project FP McCann completed in Mid and East Antrim Borough Council area in 2023 for DFC & DFI.”
This project was completed in January 2025.
