FP McCann’s Toomebridge Depot partnered with Balfour Beatty to supply all the precast units for the Rossall Coastal Defence Scheme.
Situated on the upper west coast of North West England, to the north og Blackpool on the Fylde Peninsula, the Rossall scheme is a continuation of the process of providing protection to local people and housing, from storm based flooding along the whole of that coastline.
This nearly 2km long scheme which commenced in October 2014 and was completed in late 2017, was designed by Halcrow, a Ch2MHill company and is being implemented by Balfour Beatty.
FP McCann’s Toomebridge Depot supplied a total of approximately 2600 precast components which include stepped revetment units, wave wall, rear flood walls and beach access steps.
The attractive design manages to fulfil a number of objectives which include retention of the coastline, dissipation of wave energy which is a constant hazard, a 1 in 100 storm event barrier, and a very pleasing coastal amenity of benefitto both residents and visitors to the region.
The £66m budget for this scheme is being sponsered and managed by Fylde Peninsula Coastal Programme which is a partnership between Wyre Council, Blackpool Council, Fylde Borough Council, the Environment Agency, Lancashire Council and United Utilities.
