Description: Strabane North Greenway was a project built along the remains of a disused railway line.

This project was a 1.4km, 3m wide footway that offered the public a safe and scenic walking route a short distance from the town centre.

This project was carried out for Derry and Strabane District council in conjunction with McAdam Design. Along the route there are 3 separate rest areas where users can park their bikes or simply take a rest and enjoy the views of the surrounding countryside.

Works undertaken within this project included:

  • Site clearance
  • Excavation
  • Ducting and drainage works
  • Kerbing works
  • Asphalt surfacing
  • Installation of street furniture
  • Fencing works
  • Installation of estate fencing

The project commenced in late September 2023 and was completed late February 2024. The scheme had its own challenges with the continuous presence of overhead power lines and 3 variety of invasive species being present throughout the site, these being Japanese Knotweed, Himalayan Balsam, and Giant Hogweed.

FP McCann Directly provided 42 bullnose kerbs, 199 HB2 road kerbs as well as 3288 pin edge kerbs. All surfacing works where done by FP McCann squads, they laid 600T of AC20 base along with 396 Tonnes of hot rolled asphalt surfacing. 6 precast comms boxes were also provided for this project.
