FP McCann successfully completed emergency track drainage repairs and upgrades on behalf of NI Railways at Kilmakee outside Templepatrick, in February 2023.

This project began in late 2022 to resolve a number of drainage issues which had resulted in track flooding on a number of occasions impacting the operation of the Londonderry / Derry to Belfast Rail Line. The remedial works included the following:

FP McCann supplied and installed a 250m long 750mm diameter precast concrete culvert from the Ballyrobin Road to the outfall location on the Antrim Road by means of open cut excavation to replace an existing pipe and stone masonry culvert.

Both lane and road closures were utilised on the A6 Antrim Road to facilitate the open cut 750mm diameter culvert replacement, headwall construction at the outlet, and bitumous surfacing reinstatements.

A 12.5m long 750mm diameter High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Under Track Crossing (UTX) including 1200mm diameter precast concrete inlet and outlet manhole structures was installed during a 29 hour blockade of the rail line from Saturday night 5th to Monday morning 7th of November 2022.

An existing 12.5m long Stone Masonry Arch UTX culvert structure was demolished and replaced with a 1500mm High Density Polyethylene pipe including the installation of 2no. Precast Concrete Headwalls at the inlet and outlet with the works undertaken within a 60 hour blockade of the rail line from Wednesday morning 28th to Friday evening 30th December 2022.

A 230m long existing private laneway affected by the works was replaced by FP McCann on conclusion of the drainage repairs with Surface Bitumen Layers equating to over 500 Tonne.

FP McCann then re-graded 100m of existing open channels of field drainage parallel to the railway tracks and constructed 235m of new open field drainage along the railway boundary.

Finally, 50m of stock proof agricultural fencing was reinstated with a further 235m of new stock proof fencing installed along the railway boundary.

FP McCann’s Knockloughrim Depot supplied multiple Precast Concrete products for this project. Including; Precast Concrete HeadwallsPrecast Concrete Manhole ChambersManhole Cover SlabsPrecast Concrete Spigot & Socket PipesGullies and Gully Cover Slabs.
