Arched Culverts FP McCann

FP McCann’s Toomebridge Depot has supplied a number of precast concrete arched culvert units as a component of a £15.3m flood alleviation scheme currently being implemented by Main Contractor Volker Stevin on behalf of the environment agency at Montagu Road, Edmonton, North London.

The new culvert, which has been manufactured with a vaulted top to match and abut an existing Network Rail bridge crossing Salmons Brook, extend the culvert out away from the bridge and is designed to ease the flow of flood water so that flood flows can be safely contained within the river.

The units were installed in an earth bunded area and jacked forward to mate up with the bridge opening where they were connected by a cast insitu concrete join.

This is a component of a multi-site Environment Agency Scheme to protect 2587 homes in an area which has hitherto experienced a high risk of flooding in adverse weather conditions.
