FP McCann and The Big Bridge attended the Inner Walled City Public Realm Project

A workshop on bridges, were the students get to actually build the deck and attach the cables to build a bridge, which they then get to walk across.

We had students from Fountain Primary School and Nazareth House Primary School, who all listened carefully to the briefing and asked some great questions. FP McCann provided Hi Vis and gloves to the children before they were split into teams, working from either end to place the deck and set the pins to meet in the middle using the polystyrene as scaffolding. Then we attached all the cables. The testing had the students walking individually across the bridge they had just built.

The students enjoyed the experience with over half of them expressing an interest in a career in the industry. They left with some gifts as a reminder of the days workshop.

Thank you to St Augustine’s for the use of their Church Hall as the venue for this event. We look forward to future events with the local community as we continue to work on this project next to the historic Derry Walls.

“Thanks again for the great workshop on Monday. The kids really enjoyed it and the ‘stress trucks’ were a big hit!” Ms C Colhoun Fountain Primary School.

“Thank you so much for the wonderful workshop and all the treats for the children. They all enjoyed themselves so much” Ms N Heaney Nazareth House Primary School.
