St Patrick’s Link Road will be a 2.4 km new single carriageway, with a 30mph speed limit, linking the Larne Road Link and the Broughshane Road in Ballymena.
Works continue to progress well, with the works now commenced at the Larne Link tie-in where the new right turn lane and signalised junction is being formed, along with alterations to the roadway adjacent to the cinema, where the new St Patricks Link Road ties in.
The main stretch of roadway from Kernohan’s Lane past the Showgrounds and through the St Patricks Barracks is now fully formed up to underside of the bitmac, with majority of the utilities now in the ground and new street light columns erected, with only NIE cables still to be installed.
A large majority of the road kerbs have been laid, and the new blacktop surfacing is about to commence to the main roadway, which will allow final construction of the footways and verges.
The existing Showgrounds access from Kernohan’s Lane will be closed from the New Year to allow this section of the new road to be constructed in full, in tandem to this the proposed compensatory storage pond can be constructed in this area which will help to alleviated flooding in the area with the new box culvert already installed beneath the new roadway to allow the passage of water into the storage pond in flood conditions.
Upcoming Works:
- Works to continue on the Larne Link Road
- Blacktop surfacing to the main roadway
- Utility installation and tie-ins
- Road construction tie-ins on Kernohan’s Lane
- Sheet pile retaining wall adjacent to Ballykeel footbridge
