Ready to use, sweep in jointing compound for paving joints.

FP McCann’s Brush-In Jointing Compound is a high-performance, ready-to-use sweep-in jointing compound for filling paving joints in pedestrian areas. The formulation has been optimised for fast low-temperature curing and excellent long-term water resistance, delivering weed-free, frost-resistant joints while extending the installation season into cooler months. It is applied to dampened paving and can be used in light rain — although prolonged heavy rain will delay curing and may wash product from joints. Foot traffic can generally be accepted after approximately 12 hours, though cure times depend on temperature and humidity. Available in four standard colours achieved from natural sands: Natural Buff, Mid Grey, Dark Grey and Jet Black.

Key Applications of Brush In Jointing Compound

Patios & Garden Terraces

Perfect for domestic patio areas where homeowners want a clean, uniform finish with minimal maintenance. The compound fills joints quickly, resists weed growth, and provides a neat, long-lasting appearance.

Footpaths & Walkways

Suitable for both private and public pedestrian pathways. Its ability to cure even in lower temperatures and damp conditions makes it particularly effective for year-round installation.

Courtyards, Town Squares & Public Spaces

Designed to withstand repeated foot traffic and changing weather exposure. Offers excellent water resistance, helping prevent wash-out and erosion during rainfall.

Driveway Borders & Edging Zones (Pedestrian Use Only)

Can be used on the decorative outer areas of driveways not subjected to direct vehicle loads (e.g., edging strips, footpaths between bays).

Paving Surrounds for Outdoor Features

Ideal for areas around, water features, raised planters, seating areas, BBQ or outdoor kitchen installations and fire pits. Creates a clean perimeter finish and reduces the maintenance burden in tight jointing spaces.

Commercial Landscape Schemes

Used widely in hard-landscaping projects such as, hotels, schools and campuses, retail entrances, civic buildings and pedestrianised high-street features

The low-temperature cure profile aids installation scheduling in colder months.

Heritage, Conservation & Traditional Stone Projects

Works effectively with many stone types including natural stone flags and setts. Joint sizes as small as 3 mm make it suitable for projects needing a tight-joint aesthetic.

Permeable Bedding Installations

The compound is compatible with permeable bedding mixes, supporting sustainable drainage layouts where appropriate.

Key Benefits of FP McCann Brush In Jointing Compound

FP McCann Brush In Jointing Compound delivers a range of performance advantages designed to make installation faster, easier and more reliable.

Ultra‑Easy, Time‑Saving Application

FP McCann’s Brush In Jointing Compound is designed for maximum convenience, supplied fully ready‑to‑use with no mixing or additional preparation required. Installers simply wet the paving, sweep the compound into the joints, and lightly mist with water, making the process fast, efficient, and mess‑free.

Reliable All‑Weather Use

Unlike many jointing products that require dry conditions, this compound can be used on damp paving and in light rain, enabling work to continue even during unpredictable weather.

Fast, Low‑Temperature Curing

The formulation is engineered for rapid curing, even in colder temperatures, allowing installation outside peak warm seasons.

Highly Durable, Long‑Term Joint Performance

Once cured, the jointing compound forms a stable, weather‑resistant joint capable of withstanding everyday foot traffic. Its excellent resistance to water reduces the risk of washout or erosion during heavy rainfall, while its frost‑resistant properties help prevent cracking and deterioration over winter months.

Naturally Weed‑Resistant Finish

The product creates a compact joint that discourages weed growth, supporting a clean, low‑maintenance paving surface. By reducing the likelihood of weeds establishing themselves between paving stones, homeowners and site managers benefit from ongoing aesthetic appeal without the need for chemical treatments or frequent manual removal.

Versatile Across Multiple Paving Types

With suitability for joint widths from as narrow as 3mm and depths from 20mm, the compound is compatible with a wide range of paving formats including slabs, setts, and blocks. This versatility allows installers to specify one reliable product across various project types, ensuring consistent performance regardless of paving style or joint dimension.

Enhances Aesthetic Appeal

Offered in four natural colours—Natural Buff, Mid Grey, Dark Grey, and Jet Black—the product provides excellent visual integration with most paving types. Its fine sands and smooth finish help achieve a neat, professional appearance.

Low Maintenance & Long Service Life

Once installed, the compound delivers a long‑lasting joint that requires minimal upkeep. Its strong cured structure stands up well to pedestrian use, making it ideal for patios, pathways, courtyards, and light commercial areas. With resistance to environmental wear, frost, and weed intrusion, the product reduces long‑term maintenance costs and effort for end users

Environmentally Practical Application

The water‑assisted application process avoids the need for harsh chemicals, mechanical mixers, or dust‑creating materials. Installers simply brush the compound into place and use clean water to compact it within the joints.

Flexible Installation Finish

Installers can choose between a straightforward brush‑finished joint or a more compacted, traditional finish using a pointing tool. This adaptability allows the product to meet different aesthetic and performance needs, whether the project demands a modern smooth joint or a more pronounced, hand‑tooled appearance.

How to Use FP McCann Brush In Jointing Compound

Application Guidance

  • Brush In Jointing Compound should be applied when the paving surface temperature is between 3°C
    and 25°C.
  • Wet the paving with water ensuring no dry patches.
  • Empty the mix onto the surface and work quickly into the joints using a brush or squeegee.
  • Mist the surface and compound with a soft spray of water to flush the material down into the joints. Top up any low joints and repeat as necessary.
  • Once the water has drained away, sweep the paving with a fresh soft brush at 45° to the joints, and remove any excess. A pointing tool can be used to compact and achieve a traditional and more durable finish if required.
