FP McCann supplied two dry mortar silos to DB Building Contracts earlier this year for an ongoing residential development on the historic site of the former Castle Erin Hotel in Portrush.

The development is progressing well, with the much of the main structures now in place. The finished development will consist of ten four-bedroom homes,
three three-bedroom apartments and twelve two-bedroom apartments, overlooking the award-winning West Strand beach in Portrush.

Once a landmark dominating the skyline from 1892 to 2006, the site of the Castle Erin Hotel is now entering an exciting new chapter – bringing modern houses
and apartments to a location rich in heritage.

The site is being built by DB Building Contracts, based in Ballymena. Ciaran Richmond, DB Contracts said: “We have worked with FP McCann on a number of projects in the past and have been very pleased with the quality and consistency of its mortar. Having two silos on site enables us to work more efficiently; it reduces labour costs and time spent mixing, as well as reducing wastage and the number of deliveries to site. We are making very good progress on this development, and we are very excited to see the project completed – the homes will benefit from some of the most stunning views the North Coast has to offer, as well as a prime location in the heart of a popular tourist destination.”

FP McCann’s dry mortar arrives on site in secure, portable silos with a built-in mixer. Once the silo is connected to water and electricity, workers can produce fresh mortar whenever they need it by pressing a button. The automated system creates the same high-quality, easy-to-use mix every time and meets the strength requirements of BS EN 998-2.

Work began on the Castle Erin development in early 2026 and is currently ongoing.
