Focus On: FP McCann’s Loughside Quarry

FP McCann’s Loughside Depot is situated Larne, County Antrim. The quarry has a wide catchment area, providing material to Mid and East Antrim, as well as the North Coast.

Loughside was originally operated by Alan Bridgham over 40 years ago. The quarry was then acquired by FP McCann in 2005. In 2008 a Ready Mix Concrete plant was commissioned and installed to supplement the supply of stone.

We produce a range of aggregates at our Loughside quarry, including drainage stone and aggregates used in the production of concrete and surfacing materials. The site also has a stock yard for various precast concrete products.

Loughside quarry serves many surrounding towns, such as Larne, Ballymena and Carrickfergus. The depot has been involved in many large projects over the years, including supplying specialist shotcrete concrete for a new tunnel in the Carrickfergus Salt Mines. It has sent aggregates to Larne Harbour for pipeline projects in the Irish Sea, Loughside stone is also regularly used to fill gabion baskets for the construction of gabion walls, which are used for soil erosion control, as retaining walls or as a decorative feature.

In 2022 Loughside supplied over 4000m3 of Ready Mix Concrete to the new Ballykeel Windfarm in Larne, County Antrim (pictured).
