The Zaha Hadid designed Aquatics Centre is located in the south of the Olympic Park and will be the main ‘Gateway into the Games’, hosting swimming, diving, synchronised swimming, water polo finals and the swimming discipline of the modern pentathlon. The Aquatics Centre will have a capacity of 17,500 during the Games, reducing to a maximum of 2,500 in legacy, with the ability to add 1000 for major events, and provide two 50m swimming pools, a diving pool and dry diving area – facilities that London does not have at present.
FP McCann’s Solution
Designed for safe and swift erection, FP McCann’s Fastbuild Terracing units provide a versatile economic solution for varying viewing standards, imposed loading and seating arrangements. At FP McCann, we believe in working with the customer as a partner from the start, meaning we offer our expertise in designing and manufacturing terracing to suit every individual project and are proud to be associated within the London 2012 Olympics construction. From the initial enquiry to the last piece being delivered to site took a total of 16 weeks, the factory at Grantham was visited on several occasions during manufacture to monitor progress and quality of these very special units. Air diffusers were cast in to provide an air supply into the seating areas from below the structure. A special lifting device was commissioned to handle the units into place, reducing the number of lifting anchors which need to be made good in the visible areas of finished products.
