A31 Magherafelt Bypass

BAM McCann, a joint venture between BAM Civil and FP McCann, are constructing the 6km new carriageway to the east of Magherafelt. The site extends generally south and westwards from the A6 Castledawson roundabout, to the A31 Moneymore Road at its junction with Coolshinney Road (South). Works include:

  • Two sections of Wide Single 2+1 (WS2+1) providing 4.0km of guaranteed overtaking opportunities:
    • Northbound from the proposed roundabout on A31 Moneymore Rd to proposed roundabout on Ballyronan Road
    • Southbound from the tie-in at Castledawson Roundabout to the proposed roundabout on Aughrim Road
  • 1.7km of Wide Single carriageway (WS2) between Ballyronan Road and Aughrim Road
  • Three new at grade roundabouts at A31/Coolshinney Road Junction, on Ballyronan Rd and on Aughrim Road
  • Various structures including 3No underbridges, 1No river bridge, 1No overbridge, 4No farm access underpasses, 4No cattle underpasses, 9No culverts, 3 floodplain connector culverts and retaining walls
  • Road lighting, signage and road restraint systems will be provided along the bypass and minor roads
  • Service diversions for electricity, water infrastructure and telecommunications
  • Landscaping and environmental mitigation works are also included alongside accommodation works and ancillary works
